What's in a name?

Let's settle the "big debate" first, as we do get questions about it. Is it Occam or Ockham? According to a simple Google search, nobody uses Ockham. So, why do we? Well, the short of it is there is no "Occam" in England. It is Ockham. However, many people have changed his name to "Occam" for ease of spelling and use and for any other reasons perhaps. But, accuracy is important. That is why we have chosen the far less used spelling of his name as our company name. The big "debate" is settled! Lol.

So who was he? William of Ockham was a Franciscan Frier and philosopher who lived in the middle ages in Ockham, England. He wrote about many things. One of his most famous treatises was where he argued that when trying to figure out why something happened you will almost always be better off if you go with the simplest explanation. Much like how detectives often focus a murder investigation on the simplest of motives, so we base our consulting advice on the simplest of solutions. Sure, sometimes things get complicated. But, life is so much easier if you boil down your problems to the simplest element and choose the simplest solution.

We bring that theory to our business model and try to invoke William of Ockham's theory in all we do and use him as our inspiration. We try to come up with consulting solutions for our clients that are simple, or at the very least as simple as possible in their environment. We know that the greater the complexity of a solution or approach, the greater the risk of error. So, we keep it simple and reduce risk.
